If you wish to study bachelor’s in Germany due to reasons like free education, ease of traveling an entire continent of Europe, immense job opportunities, a developed country with good income, and the like then you are thinking just right. But remember, there’s more you must know before you begin your application process. Here’s what you must know:
- Most of the bachelor courses in Germany are offered in the German language. This means before you even apply for a course you must prove your German language proficiency.
- This German language proficiency is not some basic level but a higher proficiency of at least B1. The reason being the German used in lectures is beyond the standard communication language that you would be able to acquire right after A2. You must have language skills that help you understand the core of the lecture meaning all technical terms – Fachbegriffe.
- Your high school degree must be recognized to get you admitted – if you’re selected – to any university. German school system ends at 13th class or 12.5th class in some states of Germany. If your degree is not recognized as that, then you have to attend Studienkolleg in order to get qualified.
- Admission is just the tip of the iceberg the real deal begins when your studies begin. Lectures, exercises, and other curriculum-related things are extremely difficult, even for Germans themselves. A large chunk of students quit university while pursuing bachelor’s because it is just too much stress and difficult to cope with.
My main idea is to help you get all the information that is usually not available otherwise. By no means this is to discourage you or disappoint you before you even begin to fulfill your dreams. If you are an international student then you spend a lot of time, money, effort, and resources to come to Germany. Maybe a bachelor’s degree is not for you but a master or maybe it is for you but before you make any decision and plan your life around it, it is better to be informed.
