A lot of people do not know the difference between public and private universities and here’s my quick brief blog about this.
What are public and private universities?
Public universities are universities where education and a lot of other things are subsidized by the government, whereas private universities it is not. In the former, you might end up paying no course fees and just standard semester fees that can be somewhere between 250-350€. Whereas, in a private university course fees can be somewhere between 2000-3500€ per semester.
Is it free to study in public universities?
Kind of. As I mentioned, due to the government subsidizing your education, if you are studying at a public uni. you end up paying only semester fees and no course fees. Thus, if you are pursuing a course for 3 semesters, you will pay only semester fees which are around 1100€ altogether for your entire education. Cool isn’t it?
Are public universities better?
Well, I believe, there is no good or bad university, it is just a matter of whether it suits your requirements or not. If you wish to do a course that is being offered by a public university, you end up saving a lot of expenses. However, if a private university is offering your course then you pay a relatively higher amount of money but you are still learning the same stuff.
Is my course offered at a public or a private university?
In order for you to know whether you can apply to a public or private university and avail the benefits of the former, you need to be certain of what you want to study. Do proper research on which universities offer that you want to study and which ones of them are public and private. Based on their requirements for admission, apply to the ones that match your qualifications.
