- Guten Tag – Used to greet people during the day. Usually shortly before the evening starts.
- Willkommen – Means welcome. You’ll usually see it on the door mats or on hangings at the doors or at the entrances.
- Wiedersehen – See you again. Often used when you’re saying goodbye.
- Tschüß – The most common way to say goodbye. Can be used anytime of the day.
- Gleich falls – Used when someone wishes you a good day. This means ‘same to you’.
- Kein Problem – literally means ‘no problem’. I use it at least once a day eversince I came to Germany.
- Na ja – Usually a conversation killer. I mean, when you’re Ina conversation and want finish it and resume your work or go, you can say ‘na ja, ich muss leider los’.
- Stimmt – when you agree to someone saying something. You just use ‘stimmt’ and let them carry on.
- Wahnsinn – Mostly used when you’re surprised or shocked. For example, you hear a story of someone jumping off a cliff, you can say ‘Wahnsinn’.
- Oje – Pronounced as OhYe. This is used to express sorrow or empathize with someone. For instance, someone said, ‘I got hurt’, then you can say, ‘Oje, schade’.
