If you want to study in Germany you need to be ready mentally, physically, and emotionally. I am grateful, that back in the day, I decided to pursue my master’s from Germany. I was not much aware of the offerings this country has in store for me. All I knew was that Germany will be budget-friendly for me and my mother can be relaxed as her daughter is safe. After I had spent my initial months being a student in Germany I knew I have to motivate anyone and everyone I can to pursue higher studies and if they agree to then it has to be from Germany. Here are my top 10 reasons why you should choose Germany to pursue studies – Bachelor, Master, a Diploma or even a Ph.D.
- Germany offers multifaceted world-renowned institutes that provide you the best of knowledge in the fields ranging from Biology to Computer Science, Chemistry to Mathematics, Sociology to Social-Computer Science, Architecture to Humanities and so on.
- German universities offers flexibility during studies. You can complete your degree within a certain time period and you get to choose that time period. For instance, a master degree for 120 CPs is a course of 4 semesters i.e. 2 years but it can be completed anytime between 1,5 to 4 years.
- Germany provides you with amazing and intersting part-time jobs. You can work in technical or academic areas like in universities or in a company or you can choose to work in Restaurants, markets or at bars.
- Once your course is complete you can stay for a time period of 18 months to look for a job. This is a huge opportunity for students who for some reason did not get a job in the last semester of their studies. You can even work part-time in this period and support yourself financially.
- German universities usually have studierendenwohnheim student-apartments for students at a reasonable rate. Interesting is that you can even have a family-student-apartment and stay with your partner and child(ren).
- The university internet is free not only in the university, your student apartment but everywhere in Europe. It is called Eduroam. How cool is go and get connected to Wifi and not pay?
- As a student you travel for free in a bus and even in the train (RegionalBahn and S-Bahn) within a certain area. All the transportation costs are included in the Semesterbeitrag i.e. semester-fee you pay each semester.
- While being a student in a German university you can go to the USA for 6 months to do an internship and even get a scholarship for it. You can even do 2 internships and no one bets an eye. Of course, you still should be within your time period of 4 years (8 semesters) to complete your master degree.
- If you are doing a part-time job and earn less than 450€ a month you do not have to pay any taxes on your income. All the income you have is tax-free and for you to enjoy or save. Anything above that amount needs to be taxed.
- Being a student with a Studierendenausweis i.e. student-ID you get price-reduction at places like Zoo, movie-theatres, water-parks, swimming pools, and other leisure activity places.
