My Research

Hallie hallo!

If you are interested my research work that I conducted in the past few years of my life, then you’ve come to the right page. For me, my work is not just a reflection of my academic pursuits but also a testament to my passion for pushing the boundaries of understanding and learning.

So, whether you’re a fellow researcher, a curious student, or simply an enthusiast of pioneering ideas, I invite you to explore, engage, and perhaps even be inspired by the work that has profoundly shaped my journey of becoming a scientist!

I have been reading, writing, and working on several different fields under the umbrella of autonomous driving, or as some like to call automated driving or as you might have heard self-driving vehicles. My Ph.D. focus, however, has been on demonstrating how process of risk assessment can be altered or enhanced to address dynamic characteristics of the environment of the vehicle and thereby, shifted to real-time, such that the vehicle is aware of the risk of its surroundings and based on that, make necessary decisions to ensure a safe behavior, at all times possible.

The evolution of traditional manually-driven vehicles to highly automated vehicles that can drive without human intervention fascinates me the most about autonomous vehicles. As of January 2024, we still do not have a fully autonomous vehicle, but we are very close to achieving it. We began with fully mechanical vehicles and gradually added more automation features over the past few decades. Soon, we will have vehicles that can take us from one place to another without requiring us to drive. We will all be passengers then. The cars we will be sitting in won’t be having any steering wheels, just chairs or comfortable seats for us to relax and enjoy. It is incredible how much we, humans, can achieve. We have had our fair share of failures while achieving this paradigm shift, but all of them were worth it. Don’t you think so?

My little contribution to this entire research domain is here for you. A list of my publications in my research area, including my first few publications from the early 2010’s.
