Here’s my list of fun facts about Germany that will surprise you. I have personally experienced some of them and they literally blew my mind as I couldn’t digest that this is true for Germany.

1. A beer glass in the very famous Oktoberfest is almost 1 liter.
2. Most parts of German highways do not have a speed limit. This means you can drive – if your car allows – even 300 kph.
3. There are over 300 kinds of breads (BROT) in Germany. You’ll find at least 30 varieties in a small bakery itself.
4. You can drink in public anytime during the day.
5. Mercedes are used as taxis here. I sat in one and was blown away. This was the first time I sat in a Mercedes.
6. Sausage and beer is a typical breakfast in some parts of the state of Bavaria.
7. More than half of the German vocabulary is shared with English yet there are words describing something that doesn’t exist in English or any other language.
8. The famous beer festival Oktoberfest actually is organised in September.
9. Angela Merkel the former Chancellor of Germany was referred to as ‘Mutti’ (short for mum – Mutter)
10. There are more than 30 dialects of German some being so different from the others that you would be forced to think that it is a different language.
