When I first came to Germany, all I knew is I am going to study applied Computer Science. Little did I know, it was called Informatik, and just like this German word, of course, all other study disciplines were called something else in the German language. I was damn surprised by how strange – and odd at times – how some of these disciplines were called. Here’s this short blog post to introduce you to some of the disciplines offered by a German university with their German names.

1. Computer Science – Informatik
2. Applied Computer Science – Angewandte Informatik
3. Electrical and Computer Engineering – Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik
4. Mathematics – Mathematik
5. Chemistry – Chemie
6. Civil Engineering – Bauengineurwesen
7. Social Science – Wirtschaftswissenschaften
8. Mechanical and Process Engineering – Mascihnenbau und Verfahrenstechnik
