When I first came to Germany, all I knew is I am going to study applied Computer Science. Little did I know, it was called Informatik, and just like this German word, of course, all other study disciplines were called something else in the German language. I was damn surprised by how strange – and odd at times – how some of these disciplines were called. Here’s this short blog post to introduce you to some of the disciplines offered by a German university with their German names.
- Computer Science – Informatik
- Applied Computer Science – Angewandte Informatik
- Electrical and Computer Engineering – Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik
- Mathematics – Mathematik
- Chemistry – Chemie
- Civil Engineering – Bauengineurwesen
- Social Science – Wirtschaftswissenschaften
- Mechanical and Process Engineering – Mascihnenbau und Verfahrenstechnik
Now, if you’re planning to study in Germany, you know how is your field of study called. 🙂
