Here’s another super easy and delicious recipe (Vegan of course) for you to try out. This is basically one way of cooking Lentils in an Indian way. I grew up eating this every week and this lentil (daal in hindi) is my favorite daal so far. Here’s what you need for it
1 cup brown Lentils
2 tomatoes
1 red onion
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 pinch of hing (asoefetida)
1 tsp curry powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 tsp garam masala (it’s okay if you don’t have it)
1 tbsp lemon juice
Salt to taste
Wash your lentils until the water gets clear. Boil it – in a pot or a cooker. Chop the onion and the tomatoes in small pieces. Take a pan. Add oil to it. Add the cumin seeds once the oil is hot. Add the hing and add the onions. After 2-3 minutes, add the tomatoes and let the mixture cook on low heat for 5 minutes. Add salt, curry powder, chili powder and cooked daal. Let it cook for 10 minutes on low heat. Finally add garam masala and your lemon. Eat it as a soup or serve it rice, couscous, or Bulgur. It’s going to fit with everything. 😊
