5 amazing GERMAN VEGETARIAN meals

By

People often think that Germany doesn’t have much to offer to its vegetarian guests or travelers or students or workers. Well, they’re not wrong. German cuisine is mainly meat-based, I wouldn’t deny it. However, there are some mouth-watering meals that you can enjoy when you’re in Germany. So, here’s a list of 5 vegetarian and amazingly yummy (subjectively speaking), don’t sue me if your taste buds deny my judgment, dishes that you can relish in Germany.

  1. Käsespätzle – These are thick egg-based noodles that are boiled and then served with loads of cheese and deep-fried crispy onions on top. If you’re a cheese fan, you will relish them.
  2. Kartoffel Knödel with Rahmsoße & Rotkraut – These are literally big balls made of potatoes that are boiled in water and then served with sweet-sour red cabbage. The sauce Rahmsoße is the one that adds a beautiful flavor to the balls.
  3. Semmel Knödel with Rahmsoße & Rotkraut – These are similar to the potato balls with the only difference that these balls are made from bread and thus the name Semmel (meaning bread in Bavarian dialect). They too are boiled in water and then served with sweet-sour red cabbage. The sauce Rahmsoße is the one that adds a beautiful flavor to the balls.
  4. Apfelstrudel with Vanille Sauce – How can I not include this in this list. This is basically a sweet dish but people tend to eat it as a main course at many restaurants as well as at home. This is a dish that has apple inside a dough that is baked in the oven and is served with warm vanilla sauce.
  5. Flammkuchen – This would be my second favorite after Knödel. A very thin crust of dough served with deliciously contrasting flavors like brie cheese and sweet cranberries or onions with mushrooms and cheese. You can call it a thin pizza.
