Verb: warten

By

In German, the verb used for waiting is warten. The interesting part is that you do not use it like you use it in English.

Example: I am waiting for an answer. – ich warte für eine Antwort. >> using für is incorrect.

The verb warten is always used with auf. No matter what. Another detail (if you want to know 😉 ), is that this verb comes with the Akkusativ form! The correct way of using the word is, ich warte auf eine Antwort.

  1. I am waiting for my friend. Ich warte auf meine Freundin.
  2. I have been waiting long for the bus. Ich warte hier auf den Bus.
  3. I am waiting for you. Ich warte auf dich.
  4. I will wait for her. Ich werde auf sie warten.

>> den Bus, dich, sie -> are all accusative forms!
