WHY should you STUDY ABROAD?

By

If you look at the definition of the word ”Abroad” it means – in or to a foreign country or countries. In this post, however, I refer to abroad as any place other than your hometown (where you’ve been born and brought up) and any place where you do not every day to come back to your family and stay with them at home. So basically, I mean going away, leaving your friends and family, at least the family for sure, behind and living in a place away from your comfort zone with your ever-known, truly amazing, and loving people of your life. All this should be done when you’ve turned at least 18 years old so that you are out of your teenager phase and are entering your adulthood, where you can rely upon yourself and the decisions you make. Don’t worry, you will always make mistakes, even 90 years old people do that, don’t be afraid of the mistakes but trust yourself and live your life!

But why exactly should you do that? Why should you leave your family and go out? Why should you live somewhere else when you can live with your people at home? Why should you not just enjoy the love, care, and affection and so much more your people and place have to offer you? Well, this is why:

1. Change of p5. Value family & friends: Needless tolace: Change is the only static thing in life. Studying abroad challenges you to get out of your comfort zone and experience the real world. Till the time we’re in our own happy comfortable ponds we don’t really get to know what is outside our boundaries. What all the other place, people, culture, food and so much more has to offer us.

2. Building confidence: For me personally, coming to Germany has helped me believe in my own self, my capabilities, my strength, and my power. I couldn’t have reached it while being in India. Living on my own, buying my own groceries, cooking, sleeping in my 1-room apartment, sleepless nights while preparing for exams has helped me strengthen my mind, body, and soul. I’ve become more confident and have begun to take challenges that I wouldn’t have ever thought to do.

3. Meeting different people from different cultures: This has been one of the few amazing things Germany did to me. I met and studied with students from more than 10 different countries and cultures, and each of them has taught me a myriad of things. Meeting different people from different cultures is a blessing that not many people get to have in life. It enriched me as a human being and the experiences I made were humbling.

4. Being independent: Studying abroad gave me an immense sense of independence. I’m certain this will happen with everyone who does this. When you manage things on your own, have a schedule to cook, clean, eat and study, you become a different person than you were before. You need to spare time to relax as well as time to focus on your lectures. You watch movies yet finish your projects and seminars before the deadline. You sleep late studying for a test and still wake up early for the doctor’s appointment. this helps you to become the manager of your own life.

5. Value family & friends: Needless to say, I miss my family and close friends almost every single day. Especially on occasions like Diwali, Holi, Sakrant, and all the other festivals. I miss celebrating my birthdays with them and theirs with me. Since I’ve been living in Germany, I’ve understood that family & friends make a crucial part of my life. Having quality time with them is what I relish to its core now. I don’t stare at my mobile phone when I’m with them because I know this time will be soon gone and all I’ll be left with are these memories.

Muchlove
