STUDY BACHELOR in GERMANY with low grades in school?

By

Let me begin by saying that majority of the students applying, studying, and passing out of any institution are average. They have average grades, have failed in subjects, if not in multiple then at least in one, have failed to reach the deadline of a project, and have spent sleepless nights in stress. The top of the class, the so-called cream students, all-rounder students are a tiny amount. So, it is okay to be an average student with average grades or with low grades.

Speaking of studying in Germany, your dream does not have to wither away just because you are an average student with low grades. You can still apply to universities, colleges, or institutions to pursue higher studies and get a good job to begin your career. You need to follow some steps to make your application look better and enticing for the admission committee and increase your chances to get admission. So here are some tips to improve your application if you have average or low grades:

  1. Write an amazing SOP – Your previous degree is behind you. You cannot change the grades you scored in that. What you can do now is make a statement of purpose that entices the admission committee. To do that, create an amazing SOP. Go through everything that helps you understand what an SOP looks like and after a thorough research put in sincere time, energy, and efforts to make an SOP that expresses your dedication and will to pursue your studies.
  2. Letter of Recommendations – LORs are another crucial part of your application after your SOP. Usually, you need at least 2 LORs with your application. Get these LORs written by professors or teachers who know you really well and can vouch for your case. Do not overdo or expect them to lie about you but request them to support your candidature in a positive manner so that your application has some weight. In case the person writing your LOR has no experience in it, sit with them or contact them with correct information. Tell them what do you want, may be with some exemplary LORs.
  3. Apply in your range – Don’t apply in universities where your application does not fit or does not fulfill the requirements. Doing this mistake will not only cost you money (application fee) but your time, efforts, and will eventually your hope and confidence in yourself. Take your time to shortlist universities that suit your application and write your SOP accordingly.
  4. IELTS – Your bachelor grades are past. Instead of worrying about that focus on what you can change and do now. IELTS (or TOEFL) is an exam that you have to take to study in Germany. Study hard and try to get an amazing score in it. It isn’t difficult and a high score like 7.5 or above really increases your chances of getting admission. This also leaves a good impression on the admission committee, as you can explain your low grades in Bachelor and argue with good IELTS grades that you’re ready to improve and are sincerely looking forward to study in Germany.
  5. GRE/GMAT – These exams are not a mandate to study in Germany. Check the requirements for them and study with full dedication to score well. As aforementioned, having good grades in these exams leave an impression that you’re an assiduous student and want to improve your grades and deserve to have a bright future.
  6. German proficiency – Just like IELTS and GRE, this is not a mandate for many universities. However, learning German and attaching a good score-card of German language exam improves your application and brings you in the good book of the admission committee. German is difficult but not impossible. With right amount of energy and dedication you can learn it with ease and use this to your advantage.

At the end of the day what matters is what you have now and what can you do to improve your application in this moment. It is okay to not have the best grades. All you need is an attitude to do better in other aspects to help your application get better.
