Time(-out)!

By

As a mother, as much as I want to play, enjoy, spend time, run around, feed and do crazy things with my daughter, I want her sleep, as much as she wants, as long as possible. I enjoy the time with her, but I equally – sometimes even more (can’t say, not so sure), relish the time without her. I might sound mean and selfish mom, but it is how it is. And this definitely does not make me a bad, selfish, evil and not a worthy mom.

Right now, my daughter is sleeping, and I am working from home on a paper which I have to finish soon. Each time I look the time I hope she sleeps for long. Not because it gives me time to focus, but I know the longer she sleeps the more fresh, energetic, content and happy she will wake up. And the happier she is, the better it is for us as a family. Happy kids, happy family.

And also, I need break, I need time out. I need my own space, be it my daughter, my husband, my mother, my sister or any other family member so to say. We all need time along, time to sit, relax and reflect upon things, anything, what to cook, if I should order this evening, which book to read next, what to write in my paper (if you’re doing a PhD) and how will I defend my PhD. Taking time for yourself gives me space to think and relax. This in turn helps me stay calm, composed and the moment my daughter is up, be right there for her to change her diaper (she isn’t no-diaper trained yet) and of course play with her.

So if you are a mom and you have the same feelings, don’t think bad about yourself. Take your time (-out), and relax. As a peaceful momie raises peaceful and confident kids!
